The graves of three Revolutionary War veterans: David Baldwin, Captain Enos Baldwin, and Samuel Baldwin are located here. The cemetery was established in 1781 and has 25 graves. The Baldwin Family Burial Ground is located next to the former Washington Place School on Passaic Avenue between South Orange Avenue and Parsonage Hill Road. They were involved in the Horseneck Riots in 1745. The Baldwin Family were among the early settlers of the Horseneck Tract and the Livingston area. John married Mariah Crane of Newark, NJ and was buried in Connecticut Farms Presbyterian Cemetery in Union, NJ. He married Hannah Ward in and in 1683 had a son named John in Milford, Connecticut. Joseph had another son named Jonathan who was born in 1649. Around 1668, Benjamin and his wife Hannah Sargeant emigrated to Newark, NJ. In 1642, he had a son named Benjamin with Hannah Whitlock. Joseph Baldwin was born in England in 1610 and died in Massachusetts in 1684. John was buried in the Old Burying Ground and his remains were later relocated to Fairmount Cemetery. His eldest child John was born in 1640 or 1641 and was one of the founders of Newark, New Jersey. John died in 1681 and was buried in Milford Cemetery. After her death he married Mary Bruen and had seven more children. He married Mary Camp of England and had six children. In 1636, John Baldwin travelled to North America and was a founder of Milford, Connecticut.
John was the great-great grandson of Richard Baldwin and Ellen Apuke while Joseph was the great-grandson. Two lines settled in Essex County, that of John Baldwin(1619-81) and Joseph Baldwin(1610-1684). The Baldwin family originates from Buckinghamshire, England. Overtime members of the Baldwin family married into other local families and bore different surnames, but to a degree they still trace back to this family! A colonial family is one in which a member was born in Essex County prior to the American Revolutionary War. The Baldwin family is one of the over 30 colonial families of Essex County.
